The ability to accommodate larger ensembles is inherent in the music of the Basel-based VEIN Trio. Pianist, composer, and arranger Michael Arbenz, whose work lies at the intersection of jazz and classical music, orchestrates the trio members' compositions in such a way that the flexibility, unpredictability, and interaction of the music are preserved even within the context of a large band.

The musical basis is provided by the different orientations of the three participating groups: the contemporary classical profile of the Basel Sinfonietta, the jazz excellence of the NDR Bigband, and the flexible playing style of the VEIN Trio, which is committed to chamber jazz.
