Catasterism in Three Movements

A performance project at Schaulager Basel commissioned by the Laurenz Foundation; produced by Matthew Barney and Jonathan Bepler with the participation of the Basel Sinfonietta, conducted by Jack Sheen; with Jill Bettonvil, Sandra Lamouche, KJ Holmes and others.

During this year's Art Basel, the Schaulager presents Catasterism in Three Movements, a new work by Jonathan Bepler and Matthew Barney. The performance includes a new symphonic composition by Jonathan Bepler, premiered by the Basel Sinfonietta with Jack Sheen conducting, and a choreography developed by Matthew Barney with dancers KJ Holmes and Sandra Lamouche. Holmes and Lamouche draw on and expand their roles from Barney's recent film Redoubt (2018). The three-part performance takes place at the Schaulager, which is also exhibiting works by Barney and the 19th-century American painter Albert Bierstadt.

The project continues the series of commissioned works that the Laurenz Foundation Basel has initiated and made possible since its founding, alongside the major exhibitions at the Schaulager.

World premiere.
Program subject to change.
