Roberto Gerhard, a Catalan with Swiss roots who lived in exile in England, confronted compositional problems on a very personal level in his music. His first symphony paved the way from neoclassicism to musical freedom for the composer, who had fled into emigration from the Spanish Civil War.
With his gravity-inspired orchestral work InFALL, Spanish composer Hèctor Parra sketches a cosmological vision of human existence which crystallizes in an awareness of fate that inevitably leads to death.
Impact and its resonance form the premise for the new work for orchestra by the young Swiss composer Kevin Juillerat, who brings timbres, contrasts and movements out to play.
